Isle of Wight Pride returns to the Island on Saturday 21 July as this year’s host for UK Pride 2018, with event sponsor Red Funnel offering special early bird ferry rates for mainland attendees.
The UK’s only Pride event to take place on a beach, the inaugural IW Pride enjoyed huge success in 2017, culminating in a successful bid to host the second ever UK Pride, following on from Hull last year.
Red Funnel, an IW Pride rainbow sponsor, is offering an early bird discount of 25% off ferry returns, valid for a vehicle and up to seven passengers travelling between Southampton and East Cowes. Passengers can use the offer between Thursday 19 and Tuesday 24 July, providing a great opportunity to stay a few nights and explore more of the Island.
Red Funnel has also teamed up with Southern Vectis, the Island’s bus operator, to offer a £15 weekend return rate for foot passengers. The package deal is inclusive of Red Funnel return travel from Southampton to East / West Cowes and onward connection to the event via Southern Vectis bus return travel to Ryde. This offer is valid for travel 21-22 July.
Jonathan Green, Red Funnel’s Marketing and Communications Director said: “We’re delighted to continue our sponsorship of IW Pride following Red Funnel’s support of the successful bid to host UK Pride. The event showcases the Island as an inclusive and friendly destination and helps to raise awareness of LGBTQ issues. We look forward to welcoming all UK and international visitors travelling via Southampton.”
Commenting on Red Funnel’s support, Matt Bundy, IW Pride Trustee said: “Red Funnel were an enormous support for Pride in our first year, many people commented on the amazing rainbow flags which remained at the terminals throughout the summer. We are really excited to be working with them in 2018, especially with lots of anticipated guests travelling from Southampton, the West of England and across Wales, providing the perfect route to our event in Ryde and also giving the option to stay on and make a weekend of it.”
IW Pride is a free to attend event but attendees must register in advance; online registration is due to launch on www.iwpride.org from Friday 23rd February.
Whilst IW Pride officially takes place on Saturday 21 July, additional events and celebrations are also being planned for the whole weekend and in the preceding weeks, both in Ryde and across the Island.
